Owning/Managing Organization: Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) Education Department

Program Description: Learn to use unmanned aerial systems (UAS) technology to raise your daily response efforts to new heights. The Academy of Model Aeronautics, a national organization supporting model aircraft pilots, teamed with UAS educators Fly Robotics to offer a hands-on UAS training course for public safety officers and first responders. Students are given challenging flight exercises and are able to apply their skills in public safety scenarios, like search-and-rescue missions or suspicious package inspections.

Objectives of Program: First responders will soon have access to FirstNet's fast, reliable broadband network that allows for instant communication with public safety workers across the US. Currently, only 60 percent of Tennessee's 50,000 emergency responders actively use TACN's interoperable land mobile radio system. TACN FirstNet wants every public safety professional in Tennessee to not only adopt existing technologies but also prepare for the future of advanced communications. Fly Robotics and the AMA anticipates UAS technology will help save lives and allow responders to work more effectively and efficiently.
