Program Description: The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) offers introductory communications training through online independent study courses to ensure responders are safe and efficient when responding to calls. TEMA also delivers introductory incident management and incident command training through live seminars. Responders can complete the following prerequisites required for Communications Unit Leader training online and/or in-person:

-IS-100.b, Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS), ICS-100 (3-hour online course)
-IS-200.b, Incident Command System (ICS) for Single Resources and Initial
Action Incidents (3-hour online course)
-ICS-300, Intermediate Incident Command System (ICS) for Expanding Incidents (2-day live seminar)
-IS-700.a, National Incident Management System (NIMS), An Introduction (3-hour online course)
-IS-800.b, National Response Framework (NRF), An Introduction. (3-hour online course)
-ICS-400, Advanced Incident Command System (ICS), Command and General (2-day live seminar; recommended, but not required)

Objectives of Program: TEMA facilitates mandatory and special assignment training across multiple fields, from search and rescue to hazardous materials, to create knowledgeable, effective emergency responders.

Complete a combination of online classes and live seminars over the course of about 4 or 5 days.
