Owning/Managing Organization: TACN FirstNet

Program Description: Communications Unit Leaders (COML) and Communications Technicians (COMT) who have compiled a Position Task Book are encouraged to send a copy of their book to TACN to join the database of Tennessee's COMLs/COMTs.

Objectives of Program: TACN FirstNet would like to chronicle the achievements of the state's public safety communications professionals and encourage them to adopt advanced communication technologies across Tennessee.

Program Description: The APCO aims to empower and educate public safety communications workers by hosting a variety of online, live and webinar training and certification courses. Training disciplines include:

Host an APCO course in your area

Owning/Managing Organization: Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO)

Program Description: The APCO partners with public safety agencies to deliver training courses that meet the needs of a particular community. Agencies can register to co-host an APCO course by promoting the class, providing a classroom and accommodating to students' needs. Agencies can co-host any APCO class. Training disciplines include:

Program Description: TACN FirstNet will soon offer personalized training to teach first responders how to utilize Tennessee's current public safety interoperable communications system. Responders rely on the land mobile radio (LMR) system to maintain constant communication with safety personnel across the state.

Host agency-wide communications training

Program Description: Train as a team to improve your agency's quality of response. TEMA, OEC and APCO offer incident management and incident command training at all levels to ensure responders are safe and efficient when responding to calls. Many classes can be completed online while others are delivered through live seminars.

Program Description: The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) offers introductory communications training through online independent study courses to ensure responders are safe and efficient when responding to calls. TEMA also delivers introductory incident management and incident command training through live seminars. Responders can complete the following prerequisites required for Communications Unit Leader training online and/or in-person:

Program Description: The All-Hazards Communications Unit Leader Course is designed to teach first responders how to lead on-scene emergency communications in their unit by operating the Incident Command System (ICS). The course incorporates lectures and hands-on exercises that promote communication interoperability and problem solving. Emergency response professionals with a communications background are encouraged to sign up.
