Owning/Managing Organization: Federal Emergency Management Agency and Tennessee Emergency Management Agency

Program Description: The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) offers introductory communications training through online independent study courses to ensure responders are safe and efficient when responding to calls. TEMA also delivers introductory incident management and incident command training through live seminars. Responders can complete the following prerequisites required for Communications Unit Leader training online and/or in-person:

Program Description: Learn how your agency can benefit from Tennessee's existing communications infrastructure and up-in-coming FirstNet technology by speaking directly with TACN FirstNet representative. Request a speaker to give a presentation at your next association, board of local chapter meeting to learn more about TACN FirstNet's efforts to introduce advanced communication technologies to Tennessee.

Join the National Public Safety Telecommunications Council

Owning/Managing Organization: National Public Safety Telecommunications Council

Program Description: Responders are encouraged to participate in the National Public Safety Telecommunications Council's (NPSTC) committees and working groups that aim to improve advanced communications tools like unmanned aircraft systems and broadband emerging technologies. Responders can also visit NPSTC's website to join NPSTC's discussion forum, register to attend NPSTC board meetings and share their ideas for public safety projects on the National Interoperability Information eXchange.

Connect with an outside responder using LTE or broadband technology

Program Description: Contact a responder from a different public safety organization using a portable radio. Or, use your smart phone to share text, video, image, or GPS data in real-time. Feel free to send selfies, XYZ coordinates of your current location, or a video of a tour around your station. If you already know how to share media, teach an outside responder to do so.

Learn to use a public safety application

Program Description: TACN FirstNet wants all responders to use their hand-held device to do more than place calls and share photos. Public safety professionals should understand how to access and utilize data to respond to calls quickly and efficiently. Use a public safety application to learn more about an emergency situation. For example, locate a crime scene using Google Maps or report theft using Rejjee TSP.

Program Description: Experiment with FirstNet communication technologies by sending a sample text, video, image, or GPS data in real-time to a responder outside of your jurisdiction. Feel free to send selfies, XYZ coordinates of your current location, or a video of a tour around your station.
